Draper Elementary Media Center

In December we did our lesson on Nonfiction vs Fiction. We made turkeys and on the feathers were different picture of nonfiction and nonfiction. The students put on the feathers that went with the fiction turkey or nonfiction turkey.

Experiment was on Light and Color. We had three students hold flashlights with color paddles on the front of them, red, blue, and green. Then they pointed to different points and then pointed them to one sport to make a white light. The students had fun trying this.
We play the CD and looked at the in the book “Christmas in the Trenches” by McCutcheon, John with 4th – 6th grade classed.

“I’ve See Santa!” by Bedford, David K-3rd grade.

For the last week of school we are doing “The Polar Express” on Storyline online. It’s great. We also did a book mark like a polar express ticket.

Bell View Elementary

We have a tradition at Bell View each Christmas season. We play Christmas Book Bingo. We found a great website, www.dltk-cards.com/bingo, where you can make free bingo cards. We put the names of Christmas books we have in our library on the cards. For prizes we give away inexpensive erasers and of course at the end of the game each child gets a Christmas Bookmark. This year we gave away the cool scratch and sniff bookmarks. The kids really look forward to it each year. It is a fun day in the library. We also make it more challenging to the older kids, if they know the author of the book that we call out they get an extra prize. We play bingo with grades 2-6. Reading the titles of the books for bingo is a bit difficult for the younger ones.

December craziness

Our library has been quite busy with the onset of December holidays. We've decorated our library and also the glass case. We have tried so hard to be "PC"so as not to a fend anyone.
We are working on our Media Modules, thanks to Oakdale and Butler for their input and suggestions.
I will post some pictures when we get them.
Happy holiday's to all

Bell View Elementary

This year our theme is READING TAKES YOU PLACES! We have displayed maps of Utah, the United States, and the world in our library. We have asked the kids as they travel to bring us back a postcard of the area. We then have the kids share the postcard with the classes, and put a dot on the map of where they have been. The postcard is then displayed on a bulletin board. We also talk a little bit about the place they visited and remind kids that when they read each book has a setting and they can learn about different places all over the world as they read. Some of our children have forgotten to bring a postcard so they just bring a picture of the location that they took with their camera's. One child brought in a picture of himself in front of the Statue of Liberty it was really cool. The kids are enjoying seeing all the dots on the map and sharing their adventures.
