The Treasure Chest of Rare Books is a
free program that is sponsored by The Book Arts Program at the University of Utah's J. Willard Marriott Library. On Monday, we arranged for this program to visit with our 6th grade classes in the library at Butler Elementary. They spent an hour with each class sharing rare books such as a Sumerian clay tablet, Egyptian papyrus paper, Asian palm leaf books, and many others for students to touch and examine. They end the program with a book making activity each student can take home. They are open to visiting all ages, but it fits particularly well with the 6th grade curriculum.

I'll attach the slide show below- it's really for parents (the teachers put it on their blogs), so more photos than you will want to look at, but you can zip through them quickly if you want to get an idea of what was presented.
