In October we did “Experiments with Solids, Liquids, and Gases” by Tocci, Salvatore. In the front of the book we read about and talked all about these three things. Then we did the experiment called Dancing Raisins. We talked about how the solid was the raisins and the seltzer water was the liquids and gas.
Sometimes when you are doing an experiment sometime it works and sometimes it doesn’t work. And that’s what happens.
In November did “Experiments with Electricity” by Tocci, Salvatore. We read and talked about sparks of electricity (static). Then we did the experiment Making Electrons Move. The students had fun learning about the positive and negative that you can make with balloons (water balloons are great to use for this). And when pepper and salt get mixed together, you can separate them using the power of static electricity.
Also this month we are doing National Childrens Book Week. We are having the students make bookmarks. After the students have finished they bring them to us and put them in a box so that another student gets there bookmark. The students really enjoy getting their friend’s bookmarks.
Our lesson for the month is that you can pick a subject and find a book in the everybody, fiction and non fiction section. We are using the graphic novel( comic book) science series. We are using this series to introduce this format of books to the students.
